Lung cancer

Lung cancer tests.

Which tests do they do

Is lung cancer hereditary???

  • Hi Samdan and thank you for your post

There are several tests available that can be conducted by either your general practitioner or a specialist in a hospital. If you are interested, you can visit our website to learn more about lung cancer tests.  You may also like to read our webpage on the risks and causes of lung cancer.

Having relatives with cancer in the family isn't unusual and doesn't necessarily mean that the cancer is genetic. This is quite a complicated topic and it might be useful to look at the section on our website explaining genes and inherited cancer risk.

While certain types of cancer can be inherited due to a faulty gene that runs in families, this is a rare occurrence. If you have a family history of lung cancer and have discovered that one or more relatives have a faulty gene, it may be a good idea to discuss this with your GP. They may refer you for genetic testing to determine if you carry the gene.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
