Waiting for breast biopsy results

Hi,

I had a breast biopsy taken at the end of Feb and I’m really struggling with the wait for the results. The hospital said this morning that the results are back but they will be discussed on Friday at their MDT meeting and I would hear afterwards. The lady on the phone said not to read anything into that as all results are discussed at MDT. I’m wondering if she said that because she could see my results were ok and wanted to reassure me (or if it was just general reassurance and she didn’t know my results - going out of my mind looking for potential clues).

Friday feels like such a long time away and I’m struggling to focus on anything else. Can any preliminarily results can be discussed before the MDT?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

Waiting for results is never easy so I can appreciate the worry you have. However, the lady on the phone is telling you the truth, not all cases discussed at the MDT meeting will be found out to be due to cancer.

It looks like you have to wait until the result has been discussed at the MDT meeting, so that might not be ready until after that day or early next week. I don't think you can get the results until then, unless you have been told that you can.

This is a difficult time for you so I hope you have some support around you. You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
