Feeling bruised and tender in breast, a week after chemo

Hi, I had my first chemo treatment for breasr cancer last Molnday and all went well. I have had no sickness and minimal side effects. However, yesterday I decided to go braless, as I thought it might be more comfortable and I wasn't going out. By the  end of the day I had started to feel a tenderness and bruised feeling around the site of one of the lumps. I don't feel unwell or have a temperature and this has taken me by surprise. Should I be worried that I'm now experiencing this pain, it was not what I was experiencing, after treatment started.

  • Sorry a few mistakes in my post, I was in bed and it was dark. Last sentence should read, it was not what I was expecting.

  • Hello Pippin24 and thanks for posting

Sorry to hear you are having chemo and noticed a new onset of pain recently.

Unfortunately many people can experience muscle and nerve type pain in response to some chemotherapy drugs so this isn't uncommon. However I woudl mention it to your team so they can assess you further and advise on things to help manage this.

In the meantime you may find wearing a soft bra or sports vest to support the breast tissues may help.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

All the best with the rest of your treatment
