Liver bile duct cancer.

I was diagnosed with liver cancer in Aug 23. When I'm around or on the phone I'm very bullish and positive. We know it's terminal. The thing is I live in my own and when I'm alone at home I get frightened and really anxious but as a man I find it difficult to express this to anyone (stupid ego). Its slowly getting more painfull and I'm still telling everyone I'm fine.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis of liver cancer and I can appreciate that this may be a difficult time for you.

It sounds like it would be a good idea to get the community palliative care (sometimes known as the Macmillan team) involved with your care now.

These are health professionals who will support you and make you feel more comfortable. They are experts in symptom control and provide emotional support if needed. They can also refer you to other health professionals as the need arises.  Your GP can refer you and initially, all you might want is a chat with the team, they will decide with you what kind of support would be beneficial to you.

You may also find it helpful to have information about the different types of support at home available to you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support and you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
