Breast dent

HiI’ve just turned 40. I had a breast ultrasound 2 years ago. I noticed a dent at the bottom of my breast, as far as I am aware it’s only there when I lift my arm.
I am worried sick and will call a doctor tomorrow. If it is cancer would you say I have caught it quick as they were thoroughly checked 2 years ago. I can’t feel a lump.

  • Now you are 40 you'll be referred to the breast clinic for a mammogram.

Have you gained or lost weight recently, both of these can change the shape of your breast.

  • No I haven’t. Just worried sick. I’m constantly looking at it. Because it’s underneath I’ve not noticed it before.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you’re worried about a breast change. It is always best to get breast symptoms checked out so our usual advice is to make an appointment to see your GP.

I'm afraid I can't tell you what this dent under your breast is. Easier said than done but try not to worry as there are many benign breast conditions that can occur.

Your GP may refer you to the breast clinic for further assessment. This might seem alarming  but the majority of women seen at the breast clinic won't have cancer. However it’s always best to get things checked out just to be on the safe side.

I hope all goes well for you. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
