Post Surgery

Following my Prostate Cancer diagnoses last March, I’ve recently had it removed. Thankfully I’ve now been given the all clear, however my incontinence is still a slight issue. I notice whilst I was away in the warmth of Lanzarote, my incontinence wasn’t as bad. Now I’m back in the UK I leak quite frequently, is that just a coincidence, or is there a reason why it would be better in the warmth/sunshine?

  • Hello LionelK and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you had a operation to remove your prostate recently and have been left with some incontinence.

As I am sure you are well aware unfortunately bladder problems are common after prostate cancer treatment. This often improves with time and by being careful with what you drink and carrying out pelvic floor exercises to improve the muscles. There is a section called bladder problems after treatment for prostate cancer on our website you may like to read.

As far as I am aware there is no evidence to suggest that being in warmer climates improves incontinence, so probably just a coincidence.

I hope this helps. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
