Struggling

I was diagnosed with womb cancer and had my cervix, womb, ovaries and fallopian tubes out in Dec .

They found cancer in my pelvic lymph nodes, and now I have to have radiotherapy.

Since having the operation and there is nothing to hold up my bladder, plus having problems with my pelvic floor being weak for years.

After 3 large babies. My pelvic floor is very weak.

I have to drink a lot of water, and I struggle to hold it to a point I come out in tears.

I have told the consultant and nurse I am really not coping holding my pee and they just don’t care.

I have only done two days and have five weeks to go, it seems stupid to some people I know, but I am petrified of wetting myself.

The embarrassment. I am dreading the next 5 weeks to the point that I am thinking of cancelling any further treatment.

  • Hello Blinders and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your bladder control since having surgery.

It must be very troubling for you and I can appreciate how this is worrying you proceeding with the radiotherapy treatment.

Whilst it sounds like your team have been dismissive so far, which must be so disappointing. I would encourage you to contact them and have an honest and open chat so they are made aware of how severe this is for you.

Ideally they need to properly assess the situation and suggest things to help manage and improve this so you can continue with your treatment.

Unfortunately many women do experience issues with bladder control after a hysterectomy and as you say previous vaginal deliveries and already a weakening to the pelvic floor can make this much worse.

We have a section about urinary problems in women on our website you may also like to take a look at.

I really hope your team listen to you and get you the help and support you need at this time.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. We're here Mon-Fri 9-5 on 0808 800 4040.

    Take care,

    Naomi
