My operation

My apologies if this is a stupid question but wasn't sure who to ask.

I'm going in hospital on the 21/03 for a total hysterectomy due to being diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

I'm admitted on the day surgery ward but after the operation I'll be on a ward for an overnight stay.

My belongings will be transferred from the day surgery unit to the ward during my operation.

To ensure my belongings are safe and though I'll have no valuables, need to take my phone.

I was thinking of putting my things in a cabin size suitcase because it has a built in lock.

Do you think this would be acceptable?

  • Hello enuff55sed and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are due to have surgery soon and have a query.

Your question is not stupid so don't worry about that.

Usually it is possible to hand in valuable items such as money or mobile phones to the nurse in charge on the unit and they will lock these away for you during your procedure. However likewise if you prefer to take a lockable suitcase and it isn't too big that would be fine as well.

I wish you all the best with your operation but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Naomi
