Melanoma stage 3C

Hi, I was diagnosed in June last year with stage 2 Melanoma on leg  but it spread to my lymph nodes in my groin in August. Had wide incision and lymph node removal in October. Started immunotherapy in December every 6 weeks. Have had 2 treatments with a good few side affects. Just had a scan which showed lymph node highlighted with the dye which was 4mm but now 7mm. The doctors don’t seem concerned but will monitor every 3 months with scan. I’m due my next treatment next week and am very worried the treatment is not working. If anyone could advise? Thanks x

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

It is still early days since you have started immunotherapy so I would give it a chance. It is difficult for us to give an opinion without being involved in your medical care.

I can understand that it is frustrating when you are having side effects and there does not seem to be any change but I think it would be good to wait for the three month scan to see if there is a more marked response. Do try and keep a diary of the side effects that you are experiencing to see if the doctors can help control some of these.

The charity Melanoma focus has information on immunotherapy and possible side effects which you may find helpful to look at.

If you feel that it would be helpful to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to do so. Our number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    all the best,

    Catherine

  • Hi Catherine , thanks for replying to me it means a lot.

Yes I understand that I probably have to wait as my immune system is going through a lot just now & will take a while to see how things go. I’ve been intouch with the helpline and they have given me some medication to help with the side affects.. Thanks for the helpline number I’ll probably give it a try as would be good to speak to someone.

    thanks for your help.
