Post coital bleeding

Hello. I went to the doctors a few weeks ago about my post coital bleeding. It has been happened for around 10 months now. I am on the mirina coil and it’s due to be replaced in April. I got referred to the gynaecologist. On examination she found a nabothian cyst on my cervix. She said everything was healthy and she couldn’t explain the bleeding, but she said it 100% isn’t cancer. I just wondered if this can be normal? I am up to date with my smear tests. I am due my next towards the end of the year. Can you to get postcoital bleeding without reason? Also, sorry for to much information. But when I masturbate I do not bleed. There has been some times where we have just had sex and no other play before and I haven’t bled. I’m wondering again, if this could be normal. If it’s a tear, would she have seen that on examination. I’m sorry for the long post

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we are unable to tell anyone what the matter may be.

Bleeding after sex can have a number of possible explanations and you can read more about this on the NHS website. The NHS also have information on nabothian cysts

I do think that because you were seen by the gynaecologist and assessed you should be reassured. I say this because they are experts in gynaecological conditions. I see she said everything looked normal. If she found anything untoward, she would have discussed this with you.

We always encourage people to go back to see their GP if their symptoms are persisting. Usually, the GP would get a summary letter from the hospital with any test results and the conclusions of the gynaecologist. They will advise you if anything else needs to be done.

Sometimes there are situations when some people turn out to have symptoms that can't be explained, but after thorough investigation, doctors are satisfied that there is nothing serious going on.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
