I’m sorry you are worried about some lymph glands/lumps. We have many lymph nodes around our jaw and neck. Try not to prod or squeeze them as they will naturally swell afterwards.

Try not to worry lumps and bumps can appear for lots of different reasons and most of the time won't be caused by anything as serious as cancer. However it is worth getting them checked out just to be sure, so it would be a good idea to make an appointment to see your GP again if you are still worried about your health.

Doctors are experienced at assessing symptoms and if they have concerns about your symptoms or are unsure about what the matter is they may run some further tests like an ultrasound, or refer you to see a hospital specialist if necessary.

on the NHS website but generally lymph nodes are normally swollen because of a recent viral or bacterial infection and can sometimes be felt for several months after the infection has cleared.

Hi, Over a year ago I started with shoulder pain. Visited doctor who suggested wear and tear basically advised self exercises. 6 months ago I then found a small hard but moveable painless lump under the armpit of said shoulder. I've been referred for a "routine scan".. In these last 6 months the lump has grown to the size of an egg. My shoulder is excruciating pain constantly, I itch all over and have dropped 2 & half stone within last month alone.  I have had blood tests (for which GP has requested to discuss results) but cannot get an appointment for another 2 weeks.  I'm 55 years old and scared

I’m sorry you are worried about your symptoms and can understand you wanting to find out more.

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Symptoms can have straightforward medical explanations.  But only a doctor can make a medical assessment as they are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

It sounds as if your GP has taken your symptoms seriously as they have done blood tests and you are now waiting to have a scan. We always encourage people to go back to see their GP if their symptoms are persisting. You could also tell them how worried you are about  the possibility about having cancer and hopefully they will be able to talk this through with you.
