  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your sister. This must be a difficult time for you all.

At Cancer Research UK we fund research and clinical trials but we don't have money to give to patients. Macmillan have benefits advisors and can sometimes give one off payments. You can find out more about the Benefits and financial Support they offer on their website.

There is also another organisation called Turn2Us that are sometimes able to help when someone is struggling financially.

It is important that your sister lets her specialist nurse or doctors know as they may be able to organise a social worker or benefits advisor to see what benefits she may be entitled to.

Citizen's Advice are also a source of financial information.

If your sister's hospital is near a Maggie Centre then they often have a benefits advisor and your sister may be able to chat to them. Also, some hospitals have a Cancer Information Centre or Macmillan Centre where they may also have benefits advisors.

If your sister is struggling at home then she may find it helpful to chat to her GP to find out what support she can get at home.

If you or your sister would like to ring and chat any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to do so.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
