Test Results

Hi

I had a Uterine biopsy 2 weeks ago under general anesthetic , and there are a couple of things which are worrying me ?

In my discharge notes it said my womb lining looked like cotton wool with endometrial cancer ? Am I reading to much into this ? Also how long do test results normally take in these circumstances ?

Also is it still normal to be having  cramps and bleeding ?

Thank you

  • Hi and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn that you recently needed to have a uterine biopsy.

It can usually take 2-4 weeks to wait for biopsy results, however, this may vary between hospitals. Without being involved in your care, we are unable to comment on your discharge notes. The biopsy results will confirm whether or not there are cancer cells. Unfortunately, until that time no one can say with any certainty what your situation is.

I appreciate that waiting for test results can be a stressful and worrying time and there is no right or wrong way to cope. Some people find it helpful to try and distract themselves with work or by doing activities they may enjoy such as walking or meeting friends.

It can usually take about 7-10 days for the bleeding to stop and it is not unusual to have pain. If however the bleeding becomes heavy or the pain continues despite having pain relief then do get advice from your GP or ring NHS 111 for further medical advice.

I hope you get your results soon and that your situation becomes more clear. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is freephone is 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best,

    Jemma
