can i use a number 2 clipper on my head 2 weeks after radiotherapy ?

  • Hi Stuarty, and thank you for your post.

I was unsure of your exact situation and which part of your body was treated with radiotherapy.

I wondered if you had radiotherapy to the head. I cannot find any information that says it is a problem to use clippers. However, radiotherapy to the head can cause skin and scalp changes, so that part of the head may still be sensitive 2 weeks after treatment.  So if this is your situation and if the skin is sensitive you may want to wait until it settles. Or if you are unsure it might be helpful just to check with the radiotherapy department or with your nurse specialist (CNS) if you have one.

If this isn't your situation and you have had radiotherapy to treat another area of your body then it would be OK to use clippers to cut your hair, as you only get side effects to the area of the body that is being treated.

We have some general information on our website about the effects of radiotherapy on the skin here and in case this is relevant to your situation you can read about cancer treatment and hair loss here.

I hope this helps, please feel free to get back to us for any more information or support.

    Take care, all the best
