Do you have to have lymph nodes removed if your having radiotherapy for mouth cancer
I had mine removed in one side of my neck as three of them had flagged up as being positive on CT or MRI scan.
Thankyou for reply was that on the first scan?
How long from the scan did they start treatment?
I had one CT with contrast and one MRI with contrast and a biopsy. I had surgery about 6 weeks after final scan.
Hello and thanks for posting,
Unfortunately, as nurses, we can't provide a medical opinion on this. Radiotherapy can be given with or without surgery. Every patient's situation is different, so treatment plans are planned around the stage (extent), and type of cancer.
We have information on our website about this,
https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/mouth-cancer/treatment
Hopefully their medical hospital team will be able to explain more detail concerning any proposed treatment that is needed.
I hope that this helps,
Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Yours sincerely,
Vanda
