Right rib pain/ lump

2-3weeks ago I went to a&e with rib pain, i had a bad cough n thought I had pulled my ribs as a result of the cough being so bad (it was like a whooping cough) had my bloods taken which came back clear then an X-ray which also came up clear, there were no lumps or bumps at this stage just really painful I was dismissed with codiene n naproxen to help with the pain and took a week off to recover. After a week I finnished my pain relief and didn’t feel too bad still had the pain and got worse when I sat up straight/ moved my arm (it was all on the right side) I’ve had other symptoms like constantly tired, feeling full after eating afew spoons of a meal and was very bloated- I did loose a lot of weight but just thought it was because of my lack of appetite I was forcing myself to eat when I was hungry and ate it didn’t feel good as I usually would feel after being starving and eating anyways then when I was getting ready t go back to work I noticed a lump in my rib cage went to a n e again and they said the same thing that I was a healthy 19 year old didn’t ask to see my rib then they dismissed me and gave me an appointment in the morning as doctors were on strike, the doctor felt my right rib and said yeah it’s just ur rib I’m quite skinny so I thought he just thought it was my bones l did tell him  it feels different to my left side and he said it was costodrittous or something he advised me to go to my gp for further scans just felt like he was rushing me and trying to get me to go, the appointment lasted max 5mins they also asked me to do a urrine test again but didn’t bother to take it off me I still had it in my pocket once I left anyways I asked my mum and sister to feel the lump they could feel it instantly so I don’t know wether the doctor just didn’t care enough to see anything serious has anyone else experienced similar??

  • I’ve had lower back pain itchy soles n weird eczema like rashes appear on my hand and neck along with pain after urrinating and abdominal pain not sure if it’s all related or caused by another bug

  • Hello Han4202241 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you have been unwell and have a concern about a lump you feel. And I can also see you have a concern about pain and a rash that you have.

Unfortunately, no one here can tell you what this is, if they are all related and if it is anything to worry about. So, please follow the advice of the A + E doctor and make a GP appointment to get checked out.

Please remember that most lumps and bumps will not be caused by anything serious such as cancer but I know they can cause concern.  So, I hope you have support from your family and friends. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care

    Caroline ,
