basal cell carcinoma

I have 2 basal cell carcinomas; one on the right breast (about 1") and another on the lateral side of my left breast. I was diagnosed last July and booked in to have one excised and the second one curetted.

I was diagnosed last July and I used Aldara cream for 6 weeks which got rid of 80% of it so then I was and booked in to have one excised and the second one curetted. The dermatologist couldnt make the appointment and I saw another surgeon who told me he could do it but it'd leave a big scar or I could leave it and it might just fade away.

I spoke with the original dermatologist who asked to examine me again then he said he'd do biopsies and possibly treat with PDT. Because they are on my breasts i think he's concerned about scarring.

Could a biopsy aggravate the BCC and make it spread?

Would PDT make it worse? We are advised against direct sunlight etc.

I'm so worried and so confused.

Would i be better off just having them excised?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid as nurses here we cannot give a medical opinion or recommend treatments as we are not directly involved in your care.

It is best to ask the specialist team involved about your treatment options as they are familiar with all your medical details.

Basal cell cancers do not usually spread so it would be very unlikely that having a biopsy would aggravate it or make it spread.

We have some general information about photodynamic treatment for skin cancer here.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
