Symptoms

Hi I am 40 years old and a smoker and lately iv been having a sore throat and feels like there's something in my throat,  the last couple of days iv been getting earache. Should I see my gp ASAP, I'm just frightened to go and feel bit silly, iv googled the symptoms and that's what's scaring me.

  • Hello LouLou2501 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and appreciate they must be worrying for you but I'm afraid no one here can say what is causing this for you. We always suggest that if people have ongoing or worrying symptoms to get them checked out by their GP. It is only a doctor who can assess you and if needed refer you for more tests if needed.

Please try not to google your symptoms, it cannot tell you what is going on with you and is more likely to cause you more worry rather than provide answers. Symptoms can be caused my an array of different things, most won't be the result of cancer but it is best to get them looked at if they persist and don't settle, just to be sure.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
