Mum secondary cancer found

My mum went into hospital today with what we thought was a mini stroke. After a CT scan they found a lesion and swelling on the brain. We have been told it is cancer - secondary and they will do a full body scan tomorrow to see where the primary source is. She had breast cancer 25 years ago and had the right breast removed - same side as the lesion. Any words of advice? I don’t know what to expect

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your mum. I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting to find out more.

Unfortunately until they do the scan and find out more information no one can really tell you any more. It is really a question of gathering all the information before they decide what the doctors want to do next.

They will take in to account your mum's general fitness and health and how she would cope with any treatment if there was something that they felt your mum could benefit from.

It can help if another person goes to your mum's appointment as there is often so much information to take on board. Encourage your mum to make a list of questions so she has got a good understanding of what is going to happen next.

If you or your mum would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.

Our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
