Nutrician and canver

I am newly diagnosed with non Hodgkin lymphoma someone has said that I should cut out sugar and carbohydrates. Is this true?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your situation this must be a difficult time.

We are often asked if there is a specific diet that people with cancer should follow. The advice for someone with lymphoma would be the same as someone without cancer which is to have a healthy balanced diet as much as possible and to make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Eating a healthy balanced diet can help prepare you for treatment and the recovery of treatment. There is some good information about diet and nutrition on the Lymphoma Action website here. It may also be helpful to contact your nurse specialist (CNS) for advice.

You may have seen this already, we have some general information that might be useful about Hodgkin's lymphoma and how it is treated here.

I hope this helps. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best.

    Jemma
