Ultrasound is In a week

I'm only 15 and I'm getting an ultrasound on my breast in a week. I'm terrified as I already feel exposed and ik for a fact I will lie there crying . Would you as a nurse ever consider letting the patient keep their bra on and maybe move it to the side or take it off of one breast. I really want to keep my dignity and cannot get over my crippling anxiety abt this. Even if I kept my own shirt on and took my bra off and then just lifted it. I just really don't want my top half to be exposed not do I want to be wearing a thin gown that can pop open anytime. Is this something nurses would allow?

  • I’m so sorry that you’re in this situation and it’s completely natural to feel worried about the practical side of things. Tell your nurse how you feel quite honestly at the beginning and they will understand and take care of you.
All the best fod a good result

  • Hello Immyk and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are needing to go to the breast unit and understand this must be worrying for you.

As others have said on here the nurses and staff working in these units will try and keep you as covered as possible when they assess you and carry out any tests.

Do ask if you can take someone to support you if you think this would help. Let them know your concerns when you arrive and I am sure they will do all they can to help you through this and to make sure you don't feel exposed or vulnerable.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Naomi
