Bowel Cancer

Hello,

My Dad has been diagnosed with bowel cancer with it spreading into  3 of his vertebrae and lungs? I was just wondering if you have any idea what stage this may be? He lives in a different country so unsure they use the staging system.

  • Hi there. Sorry to hear about your Dad.

If his cancer has spread beyond his bowel to lungs and vertebrae, then I think it would be Stage 4.

There is lots of excellent information on the CRUK website (e.g. here: www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../number-stages). Macmillan and Bowel Cancer UK websites are also reliable and informative.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry your dad has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. This must be a difficult time for you all.

It sounds like your dad may have a stage 4 cancer. Stage 4 usually means that the cancer has spread somewhere else in the body such as the lung in your dad’s case.

You can read more about stage 4 bowel cancer here. Sadly, some bowel cancers are found at an advanced stage because symptoms don't always develop until the cancer is at this stage. We have information on how advanced bowel cancer may be treated at this link.

I hope this has been of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
