First apt with doctor on Tues

Hello, in the past 10 days I have had a colonoscopy and a CT scan, following me noticing blood in my poo at Xmas and from then on.. A 5cm lateral spreading tumour was found in my sigmoid colon and biopsies were taken. I received a phone call from hospital this morning asking me to go see the doctor on Tuesday. They were unable to give me results though. In one way I’m pleased it’s quick and I will know but the thought of what they might tell me is scaring me and my emotions are running away with me. I’m sure we all must feel like this, fear of the unknown and everything!! Do you have any coping strategies to get through these next few days and not worrying my family too much. Thank you in advance

  • To give you hope you mirror me , i had the same symptoms as you , they give me a fit test which was 168 , i had a colonoscopy which showed a 5 cm tumour i then had a CT scan a couple of weeks later , the The MDT nurse rung me and  i have an appointment to see a surgeon next week, they did say my CT scan was clear , an operation is still obviously scary but needed

  • Thank you for your speedy reply Gordgrc, that’s good about your ct scan. I hope your appointment and op goes well, that all sounds very hopeful

  • Its hard to take anything for granted but i am hoping, i do hope you have a similar outcome as mine might be ? It throws your life up in the air , i never had any symptoms other than blood and mucus in my stools , i still feel ok i don’t seem to be losing weight and i don’t feel fatigued , do you have any of those symptoms ?

  • I’m exactly the same, I feel absolutely fine. Oh doesn’t it just, all this has happened within 2 weeks which is amazing but as you say it certainly  is scary and definitely all up in the air.

  • Hello Julh64 and thanks for posting

I am sorry we haven't been in touch sooner and hope you were able to distract you thoughts from your situation over the weekend.

It is never easy waiting for results and I realise the results coming through so quickly must be panicking you a little more. Try not to over think things and keep yourself busy today until you have your appointment tomorrow, and you find out exactly what is going on.

The doctor will go through the results with you and explain what needs to happen next. It may be worth writing down some questions to ask in case you forget in the moment.

I wish you all the best but do get back in touch if you need to.

    Take care

    Naomi
