Side effects

I have recently been started on Tivozanib for kidney cancer that has metastasised to my lungs.  I was on the higher dosed one initially but due to dangerously high blood pressure I am now n the lower dose one and my BP is slowly getting better.  With regard to side affects just how weary can you feel on this drug?  Do these side affects grow along with the time you take it or, if after a couple of weeks,  are new side affects unlikely to appear?  I know what I’m trying to ask, I hope someone can understand me.  I also seem to be suffering with awful brain fog.  This is my first post and as I started it I realised I have so many questions that I would appreciate help with, thanking you in anticipation of your patience.  I have very little knowledge of how I could feel, what’s normal and what’s to come.  I have been told my cancer is stage 4, treatable but not curable.

  • Hello and thank you for contacting us.

I'm sorry you are going through a tricky time with the side effects of Tivozanib.

Fatigue and brain fog (often known as chemo brain) are not unusual, but it is difficult to say how, when, and if you will get other side effects as it is all very individual. No one situation is normal when receiving cancer treatment, but there are of course side effects that are more common than others.

It can be difficult to know how this may continue for you, but do maybe move your post onto the 'living with cancer' thread as you might hear from others with advanced kidney cancer or receiving Tivozanib.

You can also call us if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
