Prostrate cancer diagnosis - surgery waiting times

My Dad has been diagnosed with localised prostrate cancer back in November. His Gleason score was (3+4). We decided to go with Active surveillance until his next consultation (in 3 months) and then choosing key hole surgery option. He recently had another blood test where his PSA had gone up and he has informed the doctor that he no longer wants active surveillance instead would like to go for surgery straight away !

The doctors have got him on surgery waiting list and will be seeing him in 6 weeks time for next blood test. They wouldn’t tell us how long the waiting times are

Any idea on how long we now have to wait for date on surgery? We are scared the PSA levels are going up and we have no idea on how long it would take for treatment

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm afraid we do not know what waiting times are like locally to you as we aren't part of the NHS system. The only people who would be able to give you a bit of an idea about this are those working at that particular hospital. If your dad has a prostate specialist nurse (CNS) they may be able to give you a rough time frame, but once your dad has been seen by the doctor in 6 weeks they will be able to give you a better idea I'm sure.

Take care and I'm sorry we are unable to help with this further. If you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline, the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040.  The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
