High bilirubin and breast cancer

I have just had a grade 2 30mm hr+ her2- breast lump removed.  I haven't had results yet. It is 2 more out of a 6 week wait. I noticed on my discharge paperwork that my bilirubin levels were high. Could this mean my cancer has metastased to the liver? I haven't had an mri or ct. Dr said it wasn't needed but this was before these bloods were taken. I have mentioned it to my nurse and she said that it was probably nothing and might settle down in a few weeks. I don't have jaundice although my skin tone is always a bit yellow and pale. Am I being paranoid? I don't even have the lymph node results for 2 more weeks. Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry about your recent diagnosis and can appreciate that this is a stressful time.

Blood tests can fluctuate from time to time. I would imagine the bilirubin levels will be repeated in a few weeks. It doesn't definitely mean that your cancer has spread to your liver. Often the levels go back to normal, but if they are still raised your doctor will probably arrange  further tests to find out what may be going on.

I know waiting for results can be worrying but hope you will know more about your situation soon.
