Pain

I'm waiting to go for a colonoscopy on the 23rd Feb---positive FIT test---for the last week I have had pain in my lower right side..it feels like a constant stitch and every now and again I get severe cramping right round my back..could this be connected to my bowel problems ....and any ideas how to find out my FIT test score..tried asking my GP but he just waffled round about it and said he didn't have it

Thanx

  • Hello Dods1961 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you are awaiting a colonoscopy and appreciate this must be a worrying time for you.

Pain in the right side of the tummy can be linked to things like irritable bowel syndrome, wind, indigestion to name a few but if it continues or worsens do let your doctor know.

The amount of blood detected through the FIT test doesn't really bare any meaning about what may be going on, so don't worry about this. There is a threshold measure in which it is regarded positive and further tests are needed to find out more.

The important thing now is for you to have the colonoscopy which will give further information about what may be causing the bleeding and what is going on in the bowel.

Do remember that most people going for a colonoscopy won't have cancer as blood can be caused by many different things including polyps and other inflammatory bowel conditions.

I hope everything goes well for you but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi

  • Thanx so much for getting back to me Naomi..the pain is still there so that's going on 10 days now so think I will get in touch with my gp..can't say I'm looking forward to Fri but needs must so I'll get it done....thanx again

  • So sorry to be a pain and stupid but could you tell me whether a bleeding belly button could be connected?? Iv had this ongoing for months and had it treated as infection but keeps coming back??

  • Hello and thanks for getting back to us again,

I can't say why you are having a bleeding belly button but it could be as the doctor suggests an infection that may be taking a while to heal up.

Try not to over think that they may both be connected but it might be worth making another appointment with your GP if it doesn't appear to be getting any better.

I do hope that your colonoscopy goes well and you get a date soon.

If you would like to ring and discuss any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to call us.

Our number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
