  • Hello Footprint and thanks for posting

I'm afraid the nurses don't work weekends so I'm sorry we haven't got back to you sooner.

It must be frustrating not being able to get a call back from your GP on Friday. In future if you are in a similar situation do call your specialist nurse at the hospital if you have one or NHS111 for advice.

I hope today you are able to speak to someone involved in your care about increasing you pain medication. As nurses and without being involved in individual patients care here we can't really advise on changing medicine dosages. Usually when patients are on slow release morphine they are also given fast acting oramorph for use as is needed in between. This then helps the doctor to increase the slow release to the right dosage for you.

I hope you are able to get your pain under control soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Naomi
