CA125 over 81

Hi

I was rung by my gp and referred to a gynaecologist to rule out ovarian cancer, I have found after having children I need to go to the toilet more regularly, I have had tummy boating in last month. My CA125 came back raised at 81. I've had an ultrasound at the local surgery and feedback from that was that everything looked ok ? GP didn't discuss ultrasound much as she had been concentrating on the blood results. Bloods came back satisfactory - some things I noticed:

Haematocrit: although I am in the average I am lower

Neutrophil count: I am in average but high

Eosinophil count: I am low on the average scale

Monocyte count: way over (white blood cell count)

i have tracked my periods over the last 2 months and I've had 2 periods within 2 weeks which is strange for me I feel.

I definitely am not pregnant.

I am obviously very worried about the diagnosis (having two v small children) and would appreciate some clinical réfection on the above.

Thanks and hope to hear from you shortly.

  • Hello Preet45 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you are having and appreciate the worry they are causing you.

Unfortunately no one here can give a medical opinion or interpret any test results as there can be many causes for irregularities. It is best for you to speak with your GP to go through the ultrasound and blood test findings to find out their thoughts.

You say you have been referred to gynaecology so it may be a case of sitting tight until you are seen by them to find out more. I'm afraid no one else is going to be able to tell you what the matter is other than the doctors involved in your care.

As I say symptoms can have many causes and most won't be the result of cancer. Likewise a raised ca125 level can be the result of any inflammation in the pelvic region including periods, cysts, endometriosis, fibroids and so on.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
