Colonoscopy. Polyp removal. Can it be done without sedation?

Hi, I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy over a year ago. They found polyps during the colonoscopy which might have been causing my anaemia. They’re not cancerous but I am having them removed next week. I had the colonoscopy without sedation and was fine. I was wondering, can I have the polyps removed without sedation as I would like to drive myself there and home especially as I have a family to care for. Thank you

    Unfortunately, we are not able to give you a specific answer. You will have to make contact with your hospital team concerning this.

    This is because it will depend on the number of polyps, and how easy they might be to remove. Sometimes using gas and air is possible, rather than sedation.

    Hi, I just wanted to update this post in case it helps anyone.

    I had my colonoscopy without sedation and I didn't feel pain albeit that's my personal experience. I was offered sedation which I declined after discussing with nurse. They also prepared me to be given buscupan intravenously if needed albeit I didn't need it. They said I could have gas and air if needed.

    I had a smaller polyp taken out by having a wire tied around it then polyp cut. The other polyp was too large to be taken out so sample taken and I'm waiting for results and for hospital to discuss next steps.
