Stage 3A womb cancer

My Mum has recently been diagnosed with stage 3A womb cancer. It has been a huge shock and it’s a very worrying time. I am looking for general advice on the next steps (treatment and managing the symptoms). Could you please assist?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your mum. This must be a difficult time for you both.

After a cancer diagnosis patients are discussed within a MDT ( Multi Disciplinary Team) where all the specialists come together to decide the best treatment plan for each individual patient. The decisions are based upon the type and stage ( size and extent) of cancer and how fit and well they are and if they have any other health conditions that may affect their treatment.

We have information here on our website on womb cancer which explains about the possible treatments and their potential side effects.

I hope this is of some help to you. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hello. Happy to chat.  My mum had a recurrence in 2021.  She had chemo and immunotherapy amc I’m pleased to say she’s doing very well.  Please do not despair. Drs can do miracles.  Mum had the drug Atezolizumab for her immunotherapy so I’d ask about it too. Look after yourself.  Happy to help further x

  • My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021 and she went through treatment throughout 2022/ 2023. She's recently been given a leaflet about hysteroscopy and is currently awaiting test results. She's visibly distressed and it's really worrying me.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry your mum is so worried and upset at the moment and is currently waiting for some test results to come through.

You mention that she was given a leaflet on having a hysteroscopy. I was unclear if your mum is waiting to have a hysteroscopy or had one recently.

Hormone treatment such as tamoxifen can change the lining in the womb and a hysteroscopy is usually carried out if someone is experiencing vaginal bleeding.

Hopefully her breast care team will be able to clarify what needs to happen next. If your mum has a breast care nurse involved in her care then perhaps they can provide her with further information. You often have to leave them a message and they will usually get back to her.

I hope your mum knows more about her situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
