PSA rise after Prostatectomy

Hi - had  prostatectomy May 2023. Psa undetectable two months later but it rose 10 fold by October and was 1.24 in January. Consultant says he’s worried at speed of increase and now await PET scan to determine if/where cancer has spread and follow up treatment. Am really worried and my wife is in bits. Anyone had anything similar?  Thanks

  • Hi PJB and thanks for the post

I appreciate this must be an anxious time for both you and your wife but try to take things one step at a time for now.

The priority now is for the specialist to arrange some more tests to find out what may be causing the raise in the psa. It will only be once these results are in that anyone can say what may be going on and if further treatment is needed.

Keeping yourselves busy and your mind on other things can help at times like this but I do appreciate how unsettling the not knowing must be.

Steer clear from google as it can't I'm afraid tell you what is happening to you and may lead you looking at the wrong information that may cause a level of unnecessary worry.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

  • Thank you very much Naomi - that’s reassuring.
