BRCA 1 gene with swollen lymph nodes

Not really sure where to start. I carry a BRCA1 gene for which I have had a double mastectomy and ovary and tube removal. This was all some time ago now. I have recently had some digestive issues and been diagnosed with achalasia and most recently has my gall bladder romoved about 8 months ago. Just before xmas I noticed a swollen Lumph node on left side of my neck. Bloods were taken and no sign of infection detected. I went for an ultra sound before xmas where 3 nodes were detected one measuring 1.1 cm with irregular outline and increased vascularity. No biopsy was carried out. the suggestion was to wait a further 8 weeks and repeat the ultrasound. now this weekend left side of neck has swollen quite a lot enough to fill palm of hand, and the node has grown and i can feel a number of other lumps within the area.

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I'm sorry you are going through all this, it sounds very stressful for you.

Unfortunately, as nurses, we cannot give a medical opinion, but what I can suggest is, as there has been a change in your condition do contact your GP or someone from the hospital team. Let them know that although you are shortly having a repeat ultrasound your symptoms have increased. It would be also good to know from the radiology department if you have a date and time yet for your repeat ultrasound.

Take care and I hope this all gets sorted for you soon. If you find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
