Basal cell carcinoma

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the side of my head yesterday and a skin graft taken from my neck. I was called in unexpectedly and hadn’t really prepared my self. I feel exhausted and sore today and also worried that I have no idea how long it takes to heal. I booked a holiday leaving mid March, so another 5 weeks away. Will I be healed by then ? I know it sounds pathetic but I am really worried .

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Following basal cell carcinoma removal ( BCC) the wound may take an average of 2 to 4 weeks to heal. How long it takes depends on the size of the area treated. Your doctor or nurse specialist can advise you further on this.

Some people do feel sore for a few days after the procedure. Taking painkillers such as paracetamol can help.

I hope you start feeling  better soon and that you are able to enjoy your holiday.
