Breast cancer v lichen sclerosis

I've just been diagnosed with bc and have a referral in a couple of weeks. However I've been on HRT for about 18 months, which I understand can exacerbate bc, but I also have lichen sclerosis, and quite high levels of oestrogen have been prescribed to help with this.  I've had no guidance from my healthcare professionals so am really conflicted! Do I stop my hrt and risk exacerbating my ls, or do I continue with my hrt and risk my bc getting worse? X

  • Hi Kedds,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I would suggest that you phone your consultant's secretary and ask for guidance about your treatment for lichen sclerosis, as I don't expect that you've been allocated a specialist breast care nurse yet. She should be able to give you the contact details for the nurse, or may be able to find out the answer for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. if you can't get hold of your GP to discuss this then it might be worth waiting and continuing on HRT until you have seen your breast team in two weeks times. They can review your medical history and perhaps discuss another treatment for your lichen sclerosus other then HRT.

The NHS have some information on this condition that you can read about here

If you would like to ring and discuss this with one of the helpline nurses then you are very welcome to do so.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
