Reconstruction of breast after surgery

Hi , I was wondering if I can have a reconstruction of my breast? I had my surgery in 2021. Please can you advise me!

Thank you

Pam

  • Hello Pam ,hope you are well .Did you have a mastectomy? I had bilateral mastectomies in September 22, didn’t really know  if  I wanted reconstructive surgery or not .Asked them to put me on a waiting list anyway. At the time I was quite happy being flat .in the summer months I felt clothes fitted better with my prosthesis but very warm . Started on the reconstruction in October ,I have chest expanders ,which have stretched my skin now . I am very happy with this ,hasn’t been painful, and I will have my silicone implants in May . If you want more details,I am happy to talk . Take care xx

  • Hi Pam and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry, but we cannot advise you on whether breast reconstruction surgery is suitable for you. It's best to consult your hospital team or specialist nurse (CNS) who is familiar with your medical history. Reconstruction surgery may not be the right option for everyone due to various reasons. However, please do speak to them, and they will be able to assess your individual situation and provide personalized guidance.

Here is some information on breast reconstruction from our website and here is more information from Breast Cancer Now.

Take care and hopefully, you will get more information on your situation soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Tina
