Total Hip Replacement

Hello,

I've just been told that I now meet the reject criteria for THR as I have a breast cancer (invasive ductal stage 2 HER2 neg) and that I am being discharged back to the GP. THR surgery was due same week as lumpectomy.  I thought they would re-list me for about 6 months.  I'm now left with no specialist osteoarthritis care. Has anyone else experienced this or has any one gone on to have a THR soon after completion of breast cancer treatment? I'm also shocked to discover that I have to co-ordinate all of this as specialities don't speak to each other.

  • Hello Helly and thanks for your post

I'm sorry about the difficulties you are going through.

You can raise the concern you have about your Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery by contacting the hospital's PALS (Patient Advice Liaison Service) who can investigate your situation further. There is more information about this here.

Hopefully other forum members will come along and share their experiences. You may want to try posting on other forum threads as you may get more replies. But please bear in mind that it is not guaranteed that you will connect with someone who is going through the same situation as you are.

The organisation Breast Cancer Now have an online forum for people affected by breast cancer which you might find helpful here. You can register on the site  at this link.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
