Skin cancer

Hello, I have just been told I could have skin cancer and iam waiting to have my lump removed of my chest within the next 2 weeks. Today I had a call from my doctor asking for me to have a blood test. Is this normal procedure or are they not telling me something. I am absolutely terrified at the moment and don't know what to think. Thank you x

  • Hello Hugo1 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear your news and appreciate asking to have more tests can be a worry but please try not to worry or overthink things for now.

The best thing to do would be to ask the doctor what the blood test is for and go from there, anything else at this point is just guessing, which isn't helpful.

Sometimes they can run blood tests to help stage (the extent) some types of skin cancer but again running a test doesn't mean anything serious is going on.

Try and take things one step at a time for now. Keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can. Avoid google and try to stick to the facts as the information is given to you by the doctors and nurses directly involved in your care.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Naomi
