Thank you for your question. I'm afraid it is difficult to say how successful bladder surgery is generally as it depends on so many different factors.
I think it is fair to say that surgeons wouldn't recommend surgery unless they felt there was a significant benefit to the patient having it.
We usually suggest that patients who are undergoing any cancer treatment discuss what the risk and benefits are for having it and what they hope the treatment will achieve in the short and longer term.
Often with cancer surgery the doctors will want to be removing as much of the tumour as possible(if not the whole thing) including an area of tissue around it, where possible.
