Biopsy

I am going to the gynaecologist today I’ve had an ultrasound and dr thinks it’s a cyst on my ovaries but they are doing a biopsy ~ is this normal procedure please?

  • Hello Auntyooo and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that your are having investigations.

If you have had an ultrasound and the doctor has identified a cyst in some cases the doctor may want more information about the cyst. Any biopsies that are taken from the body are looked at by the pathologist under a microscope so they can find out more about the cyst.

It is difficult to say more as we don't have all the information about your situation and we are not involved in your care.

It normally takes a couple of weeks to get the result back from your biopsy.

Do ask questions when you go to the hospital so you understand more about your situation and why you are having the biopsy.

If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
