Sarcoma cancer

Hi, my mother-in-law has already two sarcoma surgeries abroad, widouth great results.

Now she would like to come back in the UK and do the third surgery here as cancer is back again and it grows very fast.

What is the procedure and how long she would  wait from going to the GP to be seen by a specialist as she doesn't have a lot of time for waiting. Thanks in advance for your reply.

  • Hello Alexix and thanks for your post

It's probably best your mother in law contacts her GP before she leaves so her doctors abroad can send them her medical information. The GP would then be able to refer her to an oncologist  ( cancer specialist) at a hospital near where she is going to be living. I am not sure how long this process will take but hopefully by contacting the GP as soon as she can will hopefully speed up this process.

If your mother in law has lived outside the UK for a while she is not automatically entitled to NHS care unless she can demonstrate that she is coming back to the UK as a permanent resident. There is some information on our website about returning from living abroad that you may find useful to look at  here

We have information on our website on soft tissue sarcoma at this link which you may find helpful.

I hope this is of some use. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
