Worried I may have nasopharyngeal cancer

Hello, I had thyroid cancer in 2015. Last week was told I have a ruptured eardrum now in my right ear an needs an op. My left ear had the same problem an had an op in 2017 for it and I’ve got loss of hearing. I just looked at the symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer an have all of them just not major weight loss. I don’t know what to do, or who to speak to. Can you please help me. Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your post

I am sorry to learn that you are having symptoms that are causing you to worry, especially as you have had cancer in the past. Many people contact us because they are concerned that the symptoms they have might be caused by cancer. We are unable to diagnose you and the best advice we can give is to go and see your doctor.

They will be able to assess your symptoms and decide whether you need to go for any further tests. Although this can seem frightening, in some cases the symptoms will be caused by something else other than cancer. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out.

I hope this reply is helpful and you can speak with a doctor soon. If we can help in any other way please do contact us again. If you would prefer to speak to one of the nurses directly, you can telephone us on 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
