Borderline 1c2

Hi there,

I had a hysterectomy in October 2023 and the surgeon told me that I had borderline ovarian tumours, he said that as the cells were on the outside of my ovary some had broken away and some where discovered in the wash done during surgery.

I am concerned as to will this cause problems and how will I know if they create a tumor later on down the road?

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Borderline ovarian tumours are abnormal cells that form in the tissue covering the ovary. They are usually referred as low malignant tumours as they tend to grow slowly and in a more controlled manner when compared to cancer cells.

We have some information on borderline ovarian tumours on our website which you can read by clicking here. The charity Ovacome has some further information on their website at this link

It is normal to feel anxious after having treatment and to worry that it will come back.  There is a small risk of the tumour coming back. Very rarely, the borderline tumour cells change into cancer cells. But most women with borderline tumours are cured after surgery and have no further problems.

Your specialist team will advise you further on this as they are familiar with all your medical details. They will also advise you on your follow up appointments. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can discuss this further with you. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

You might find it useful to talk to others who have a similar experience about how you are feeling, Ovacome have a Forum where you can talk to people going through similar things   You can register and find out more about this at this link.

I hope this is of some use. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
