  • Hello Meme, and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you are having problems with symptoms, they can be exhausting to deal with.

Increased cancer pain does frequently respond to morphine, but it does need to be a dose right for you and needs other medications, like laxatives to be added in to stop side effects. Sometimes nerve pain can cause a problem which needs a different type of pain killer too.

As it can get a bit hard to get the right doses of everything to give you the best quality of life, patients are often referred to a Macmillan or palliative care team who are experts in symptom management. If you do not think you are already known to one of these teams it might be worth discussing with your doctor or specialist nurse.

We have information here on cancer pain and here on support when dealing with ongoing pain.

Take care Meme and I hope this all gets sorted for you soon. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
