Rope like puckering from armpit to under my breast

I went to GP and referred on the 2WW, my consultant after examination advised me that I was to have a mammogram and ultrasound, which was done at the same appointment. He also advised that he was going to request a MRI and would receive an appointment in a few weeks.
After mammogram and US on the day I didn’t go back to the consultant, but was told by the doctor that performed the US that all ok and I would receive appointment for MRI.
I received a call the following morning a Friday to confirm an appointment for the MRI on the Tuesday of the following week.
I have an app that informs me of any appointments, test results etc.

I have received a follow up appointment with my consultant which is scheduled 5 weeks away and requested future testing ordered by my consultant but no further details.
No results are available in regards to the MRI in my app.
Why was an MRI performed ? I’ve looked for information from various sources and read that it is not normal practice for an MRI?

  • I have now had a recall for an ultrasound and a tomosynthesis next week? I am assuming that something showed up in the MRI…. Should I be concerned? I’ve had no contact from my consultant?

  • Hello Mica, and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you have these worries about what is going on at the moment. But it is difficult to say exactly what is happening and why, as we aren't part of your care team.

When a doctor is assessing a patient several tests and examinations can be used to work out what may be causing the symptoms you have. It is important to remember that many different things can go on in the body, but everything has to be investigated thoroughly.

We have information on breast cancer tests used on our pages here.

Breast Cancer Now, a UK-based breast charity, has information on recalls after a mammogram here too which may be useful to read.

Take care Mica and I hope you get more information about your situation soon. If you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
