Breast pain

I’ve been worried all weekend about my breast pain and tonight I’ve got pain in my back too (same position as my breast but just in my back) I‘ve just read online that breast cancer can spread to the spine and the bones. I’ve had a sore back and neck for quite some time now but the GP has put it down to muscle/nerve pain. I don’t think there are any lumps in my breasts that I can feel. What should I do?!

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I can see that you are worried about pain in your breast and back.

You have done the best thing in going to see your GP about this.  If there was a concern you had breast cancer you would have been referred to the breast clinic.  Therefore, I think the best thing to do is take your GP's advice about this being related to muscle or nerve pain. Your GP may have told you what to do to make this better.  If it does not get better then do go back to your GP to let him/her know.

Pain is not a usual sign of breast cancer but do let your GP know if you are still concerned.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
