It's a stressful and worrying time being referred to a breast clinic, although it's important to bear in mind that the majority of people who are referred don't have breast cancer.

When a breast nodule is identified, most people would be referred on a 2 week urgent referral. It sounds scary, as the referral letter will indicate suspected breast cancer, as it's a breast nodule. However, cancer is not always the reason for breast nodules.

Breast lumps should be looked at in a breast clinic . You will be examined and given an ultrasound and a biopsy can also sometimes  be taken. Mammograms are not usually taken under the age of 40 , as the breasts are still very dense and the results are more difficult to interpret. You really do just need to wait to be seen , as no one can say what this may turn out to be.

It is hard waiting to be seen and I wish there was some advice to make the time go by more quickly. All I can say is to try and keep busy and active and stay off the internet ,as it won't give you any answers as to what is going on with your breast  and can only make you more anxious.
