Care Kit

Hi, I'm hoping that you might be able to help me with a question.

My Mum is due to start Chemo within the next couple of weeks, and I'm just curious if you might have a list of hygiene and cleaning items that you could recommend. Anything that should be avoided and any 'Must haves'.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I can understand that you want to get prepared as much as possible before she starts chemo in a couple of weeks. I don't however think that there are any specific guidance on what cleaning products you should use other then what she normally does.

It is a good idea though  to keep friends and family away when they have any coughs or colds whilst she is going through treatment. Your mum's immunity may be lowered due to the chemotherapy drugs that she is given.

We do have some information on how she can get herself physically ready for chemotherapy which you can see here

Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and trying to increase how much fluid (water) she drinks can all help once the treatment has started. It can also help to cook some meals for the freezer so she is prepared when she may have a bit less energy.

We have some information on how you may be able to support your mum which you can see here

I hope some of these tips may help. If either of you would like to ring and chat with one of the helpline nurses then you are very welcome to do so.

Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
