  • Dear Shirley

I am happy to read that your first scan was good news, but I am sorry to hear that your mobility has declined. Your doctor can order walking aids, but the physiotherapists may need to assess you first. You may also be eligible for a blue badge. You do not need to drive to have one. I have attached a link for you to read.

I believe you may be reaching state pension age soon, so you may be eligible for the attendance allowance. Attendance Allowance is extra money if you have a long-term physical, or mental condition or a disability. What counts is how your condition impacts you, not the nature of your ailment. There are no restrictions on what you spend the allowance on. There is more information at this link.

I suggest that you discuss the discomfort in your thighs with your hospital specialist because it could be a side effect of the chemotherapy or it may be necessary to re-evaluate your arthritis.

I have attached a link to our website which explains the side effects of chemotherapy.

Certain types of arthritis can be treated with certain chemotherapy. The chemo you're receiving may be improving the efficacy of your steroid injections. Your hospital specialist may be able to answer this question.

I hope you find this information helpful.  Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,
