Vulval melanoma

Hi.

I have some hyperpigmentation in my labia minora. I noticed it about a year ago and it was one tiny patch. It has since spread and the patches are varying in colour now with some very park bits and lighter bits. The edges are not regular.
I have been to the doctor. They have said they don’t know what it is and have referred me to gynae.
however, this was 3 months ago and no progress has been made.

im very worried about what this could be. Does anyone have any advice on how to be seen more quickly.

for context, im 34.

  • Hi Becs and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are worried about your health.

I’m afraid no one on here will be able to tell you what may be the matter. Only doctors can make a diagnosis and they often need test results to get to the bottom of things. Waiting for hospital appointments when you are worried is stressful.

I imagine your GP made a non-urgent referral for you to see a NHS gynaecologist.  People who have non urgent appointment can wait a few months to  be seen on the NHS. The only way that you can be seen more quickly if your GP thinks that you need to be seen urgently and makes the referral. In this situation it can take 2 to 4 weeks to be seen.

Some people will choose to go private (if they can afford this option) and can ask to be referred to a private gynaecologist or they will try and see if they can make an appointment at a private hospital locally themselves, without a GP’s referral.

We always encourage people to go back and discuss their symptoms with their GP, especially if they are persisting or getting worse and see what their advice is, and ask if you need to be seen more urgently.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you for getting back to me. I really appreciate it
